What do toys, kids and the Children’s Library have in common? Volunteerism!

Volunteerism is the act of volunteering…giving your time, your knowledge, your skills and your support to a project and asking nothing in return.

Sometimes, what you get in return is so much more than you gave because helping others makes us feel good.

The librarians of the Foreign Literature at the Kherson Oblast Children’s Library had a special volunteerism project – collecting toys for sick children who are in the hospital.

The librarian in charge, Anya Gostaluk, collected many toys. They were donated by children who visited the Library, teachers and students at local schools, teachers at the Technical University, other librarians and their friends and families.

These kind-hearted people know how difficult it is for a child to be sick and in the hospital. They wanted to help these children feel a little happiness while they recover. By donating their toys, they were able to make a big difference in the life of a small child.

Anya and I delivered the toys this month. We had the chance to see how very happy each child became when they received a stuffed animal or books or toys.  It was like celebrating New Year’s in July!

Thank you to everyone who donated their toys and books. I hope you enjoy looking at the happy faces of the children after they received their toys!

If you want to be a part of this worthwhile project in volunteerism, Anya and I hope to collect toys before New Year’s Day for children in the hospital during the holiday. Please join us in this project. The joy you will get from helping others will be so much more than you give.
